Frequently asked questions

Do I need to see a Medical Doctor before I do Physical Therapy?

No! Georgia is a direct access state for physical therapy which means you can be evaluated and treated by a Physical Therapist without having to be seen by a physician.  You do not need a referral or therapy prescription from a physician before going to a Physical Therapist.  In fact, recent research revealed that people with low-back pain who went on to see a Physical Therapist first got better twice as fast and spent half as much money compared to those who went to see their physician first.

What should I expect at my first session?

We want to listen to you tell us what happened and what you are experiencing. We want to hear what is going on in your body. We also want to know how and what you are feeling and experiencing and how that is affecting your everyday life. We will then perform a thorough evaluation to determine your unique needs. This will include a comprehensive medical history, followed by a physical examination that includes posture, strength, joint and muscle restrictions, and gait. Most evaluations will include an assessment of your movement. So, please wear workout clothes.

What should I wear to my appointments?

For physical therapy, work out or exercise clothing is best. A tank top and shorts are preferred as it allows us to better view and assess your joints as we perform the evaluation.

How do I pay?

The Mobile Athlete accepts all major credit cards, HSA/FSA cards or cash  (in the exact amount).

Can I use my Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds to pay for Physical Therapy?

Yes, and this is often what people use to pay for their Physical Therapy.
